In a fortunate turn of events, Mawar is projected to veer away from Palawan, greatly reducing the threat of its destructive force on the province.

However provinces in Northern Luzon, particularly Cagayan Valley, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands are now preparing for the potential impact of the powerful storm which may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tonight or tomorrow morning, Saturday.

Meteorological experts from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) have closely monitored the trajectory of Mawar, which will be called “Betty,” once it enters the country’s landmass.

Recent updates indicate a significant shift in the storm’s path, relieving Palawan residents and authorities from the immediate threat.
While Palawan remains outside the direct path of Mawar, experts warn that the province will still experience adverse weather conditions due to the prevailing southwesterly wind flow.

This wind pattern, coupled with Mawar’s immense size, will likely bring heavy rains to various parts of Palawan, which may result in localized flooding and potential landslides.

Therefore, authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.

Meanwhile, with prevailing rains expected over the weekend, local disaster response teams in the province have been mobilized to implement preemptive measures, such as the evacuation of vulnerable communities and the reinforcement of critical infrastructure.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Palawan District has scheduled a press briefing this afternoon with local media representatives to discuss the province’s disaster management preparedness and latest weather updates.

Palaweños are urge to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and follow the guidance of local authorities.

The coordination of efforts among government agencies, local government units, and relief organizations is in full swing to ensure a swift response to any potential emergency situations.

Despite the changed course of Supertyphoon Mawar, PAGASA emphasizes the importance of staying alert and prepared, as weather conditions can rapidly evolve. They continue to closely monitor the situation, providing timely updates to safeguard the welfare of residents in both Palawan and the affected regions.
