Over 50 indigenous Palaw’an families, beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), received assistance in Sitio Maruso, Barangay Candawaga, Rizal, Palawan on May 4, under the Food-for-Work Program.

The Social Welfare and Development Team Office (SWADT) and 4Ps Provincial Operations Office (POO) of Palawan, along with the Local Government of Rizal, 4Ps Rizal Municipal Operations Office (MOO), Candawaga Barangay Council, and cluster Parent Leaders, joined forces to provide aid to the indigenous families.

The assistance came in the form of Family Food Packs in exchange for their participation in community activities such as riverbank cleaning. This initiative aligns with disaster preparedness efforts, considering the possibility of upcoming storms in the MIMAROPA region, as forecasted by PAG-ASA.

The Food-for-Work Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) encourages community involvement in implementing community-defined projects related to disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and rehabilitation, including projects aimed at mitigating hunger and ensuring food security.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance, highlighting the significance of their community participation and the positive impact it brings to their lives.

Additionally, the DSWD team, along with Ayala Foundation Inc. and Zone V Camera Club, visited Sitio Maruso to personally check on the indigenous Palaw’an families. They also recognized the Malunes Family of Barangay Candawaga as the exemplary Pantawid Pamilya awardees for 2023.
