Demonstrating their commitment to community welfare and preparedness, the Palawan Provincial Government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) has taken proactive measures to safeguard residents in the face of potential storms or disasters.

Despite Supertyphoon Mawar not projected to directly impact Palawan, the government has readied 6,000 family food packs (FFPs) for distribution, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for any eventuality.

While meteorological forecasts indicate that Supertyphoon Mawar is unlikely to make landfall in Palawan, the Provincial Government, led by Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates, recognized the value of proactive action.

Acknowledging the unpredictable nature of weather patterns, the government took a precautionary approach to ensure the well-being of its residents.

The initiative involved the collaboration of various government agencies, particularly the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Palawan District.

These packs contain vital provisions such as non-perishable food items, clean drinking water, and basic hygiene supplies, ensuring that families have access to essentials during times of crisis.

Aside from the 6,000 FFPs, ten municipalities, including Aborlan, Bataraza, Cuyo, Magsaysay, Rizal, Balabac, Araceli, Brooke’s Point, San Vicente and Dumaran have also received 500 FFPs from the provincial government.

The PSWDO has also allocated prepositioned goods for the remaining thirteen towns of the province. Once prepared, the local government units (LGUs) will coordinate with their agency to transport the FFPs to their respective towns.

By ensuring the availability of essential supplies and prioritizing the well-being of their residents, Palawan continues to foster a culture of preparedness and safety.

While Supertyphoon Mawar may bypass Palawan, by proactively preparing for potential storms or disasters, Palawan showcases the importance of community resilience and the commitment to safeguarding the welfare of its residents, come what may.
