The award was given to Palawan as a commendation of nutrition programs despite difficulties faced by the province in regards to malnutrition.
Based on the data Palawan submitted for the Monitoring of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) for the years 2017 to 2019, the Malnutrition Prevalence Rate (MPR) category for the Wasted and Severely Wasted was at 8.49% in 2017 and slowly decreased to 5.03% in 2021.
The island province also recorded a decrease in the Underweight and Severely Underweight categories. In 2017, 8.8% MPR was recorded and is now down to 7.01%.
The Palawan Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO), Rachel Paladan, was acknowledged as a runner-up for Top Performing PNAO in MIMAROPA as well as others from different municipalities for their contributions to the regional nutrition campaign.
San Vicente Municipal Nutrition Action Officer (MNAO) Rodrigo Cipriano Jr. And District Pnutrition Program Coordinator of Palawan Mila Veneranda were also recognized as finalists in their categories. And, from Brgy. Alimanguan, San Vicente, Mary Jane Velldor placed as 2nd runner-up for the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar.
The Regional Nutrition Award by the NNC and Department of Health (DOH) recognizes and awards government workers, offices, and LGUs in their contribution and campaign to curb malnutrition in their respective communities.
