The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday, August 5 responded to a maritime incident involving a life raft carrying four Chinese fishermen that drifted at the vicinity waters off Canipaan, Rizal Palawan. Two of the four fishermen were found dead while the other two were rescued.

“Immediately, the PCG Station Brooke’s Point coordinated with the PCG Sub-Station Rio Tuba for the activation of a search and rescue (SAR) team, together with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Bataraza.” PCG said on their official Facebook page.

PCG said the survivors narrated that while fishing, they encountered bad weather and rough sea condition, pushing them to launch their life raft and abandon their fishing vessel.

The two survivors, Fu Wanke and Lu Yunian were from Hainan, China. The investigation revealed that the fisherman, Li Bang Lai died due to serious head injury and the other companion named Qin Tong died due to drowning.

The casualties were brought to the nearest funeral home for proper disposition. Meanwhile, the authorities continue to monitor the health condition of the survivors.
