The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), led by Coast Guard Special Operations Group – Palawan, successfully rescued yesterday, November 30, a stranded dugong weighing approximately 300 kilograms and measuring 2 meters in length at the shoreline of Jacana, Barangay Bancao-Bancao, Puerto Princesa City.
Prompted by reports from local residents, the rescue team, including Coast Guard Station Central Palawan and the Coast Guard K9 Field Operating Unit – Palawan, carefully transferred the dugong to the deeper part of the sea.
The mammal was believed to have drifted into the shallow waters during the previous night’s strong winds and big waves, was released back into its natural habitat.
