The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAgO) of Palawan officially launched its “Adopt-a-Community Program” in Sitio Balimbing, Barangay Alacalian, Taytay, on June 19–20, 2025, with 44 families in attendance.
Spearheaded by Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Romeo M. Cabungcal, the program aims to support rural development by aligning government interventions with the actual needs of far-flung communities. The initiative focuses on strengthening agriculture, fisheries, coastal resource protection, and improving access to basic social services such as health, education, and livelihood opportunities.
“This initiative is about co-ownership,” said Cabungcal. “We want to empower the residents to help shape the interventions that will reach them—whether in agriculture, fisheries, or coastal protection.”
During the two-day event, participants took part in consultation and planning sessions with representatives from the provincial government. The goal, according to PAgO, is to identify each community’s specific priorities to inform future development programs and services.
The office also led a coastal cleanup activity as part of the national observance of Month of the Ocean, with residents actively participating in the environmental effort.
The Adopt-a-Community Program is designed to address not only economic needs but also to support the socio-cultural, health, and educational aspects of life in remote barangays. It promotes direct collaboration between communities and government agencies to ensure inclusive and sustainable development across Palawan.
