The Provincial Veterinary Office recently launched a Medical Veterinary Mission to assess the needs and examine animals and livestock affected by Typhoon Odette last December.
The medical mission, which was commenced on December 27-29, was initiated by Dr. Darius Mangcucang, PVO OIC through the help of their own Veterinary Medical Team.
According to their press release, the veterinary medical mission which was held in both Roxas and Taytay, focused on the distribution of vitamin supplements for more or less 200 cows, goats and other livestock of the said towns.
Furthermore, Mangcucang and his team also held a seminar and basic training for animal emergency procedures and first aid tips during crisis or calamity situations. The said training and seminar was attended by farmer residents and livestock raisers on both northern towns.
According to Mangcucang, their office is still on the process of assessing the amount of damage caused by Odette in terms of local livestock and other animals used by farmers in the whole province.
“Ang kalamidad na ito ay nag-iwan ng higit na pinsala hindi lamang sa buhay ng mga tao, kundi sa mga kahayupan na naging parte na ng pangkabuhayan ng mga tao,” said Mangcucang.
“Ang POV ay patuloy na magbibigay ng serbisyo sa mga magsasaka bilang mandato ng aming opisina,” he added.
POV also targets to host more veterinary medical missions on other severely affected towns during the typhoon’s onslaught.
