Members of the city council of Puerto Princesa imposes an ordinance today, January 17, in line to improve the setup of structured and viable bicycle lanes and pedestrian walkways that ensures the road safety of the community, the City Information Office (CIO) announced.
City Ordinance No. 1144 entitled: “An ordinance establishing a network of bicycle lanes and improved pedestrian walkways in national highways within the territorial jurisdiction of the city of Puerto Princesa to support people’s mobility and providing penalties for violations thereof,” will ensure additional safety measures to the bikers and the community.
The said ordinance was sponsored by the Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure and was suggested on the previous sessions of the City Council on November 2021, which was later on acknowledged by City Information Officer Richard Ligad.
For the past two years of the pandemic, the community devised different activities to cope with the onset of cases and stagnancy at home, in which the demand and interest in recreational activities risen as to where biking is highly popular.
With the existence of the newly implemented ordinance, the city government expects that it would not only cater the benefit and well-being of the bikers, but also the percentage of commuters and the security of the flow of livelihood in the city.
