The City Government’s push to anchor its tourism framework in deep historical roots received a national boost as the City Tourism Office officially secured accredited membership in the Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) under the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP).
The formal recognition certificate was handed over on August 25, 2026, during a gathering held at Mabesa Hall in Sentrong Pangkultura ng Biñan, Laguna.
Established in 2013 with 33 founding organizations, the LHCN has expanded into a 125-member strong collective spanning local government units, academic institutions, and cultural bodies dedicated to preserving regional history. Within the MIMAROPA region, the Puerto Princesa City Tourism Office joins an exclusive circle alongside the Palawan Studies Center and Marinduque State University as accredited network participants.
City tourism officials noted that the recognition bridges a vital gap between mainstream ecotourism and historical preservation.
While Puerto Princesa is globally celebrated for its pristine natural landscapes and protected habitats, the LHCN affiliation highlights a concerted shift toward integrating local narratives, historical landmarks, and cultural heritage into the city’s broader tourism blueprint.
As an accredited affiliate, the local office gains expanded access to NHCP’s technical resources, research networks, and collaborative preservation programs, ensuring that the city’s unfolding story remains as enduring as its environmental treasures.
