A Fisherfolk Ice Supply Hub Small Business Enterprise has been launched in Sitio Panagnaan, Barangay Taratak, Bataraza, Palawan, through the Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) to help indigenous fishermen improve product quality and increase their income.
According to the local fisherfolk, the facility plays a critical role in preserving fresh catches and minimizing post-harvest losses caused by rapid spoilage. Beyond providing immediate cold-storage infrastructure, the initiative aims to fortify grassroots cooperatives, stabilize trading systems, and refine regional distribution policies.
This enterprise forms part of a broader corporate commitment by RTNMC, which has consistently rolled out livelihood support, agricultural gear, and technical assistance programs tailored for indigenous farming and fishing communities across its host and neighboring barangays.
By pairing material aid, such as crop bundles, hardware, and fishing equipment, with hands-on capacity building, these sustained interventions seek to transition smallholders away from subsistence-level operations toward long-term food security and reliable household revenue.
