Residents of Barangay Iwahig, Bataraza, Palawan now have safer and more reliable access along a local road following the completion of a pipe culvert bridge project supported by Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC) through its Social Development and Management Program (SDMP).
Led by the Barangay Iwahig local government, the project was built to improve drainage and allow rainwater to pass safely beneath the road. This is particularly important during heavy rains, when overflowing water can damage roads and disrupt daily travel.
The project forms part of RTNMC’s continuing community development initiatives in Bataraza, where SDMP funds support infrastructure and other programs identified with host and neighboring communities. Iwahig is among the barangays covered by these development efforts.
Beyond providing a safer crossing, the new culvert is expected to help protect the road from water-related damage and keep access open during rainy weather, an everyday improvement that can make a difference to residents traveling through the community.
