The dream of having an Instagrammable destination in Puerto Princesa will be soon be a reality as the Red Hankee Lane project officially started last Feb 5, where three major art groups of Palawan collaborate for the first time.
Guhit Pinas, Art on the Move Artists and The Palawan Artists Collective will turn the whole Red Hankee Lane, located in Rizal Avenue in between Badjao Inn and Ugong Rock Resto Bar, into a canvas.
The lane is a code name of the late Trinidad Mendoza, the wife of Palawan provincial hero, Gov. Higinio Mendoza.
The Red Hankee Lane Mural Street Art Project is funded by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts together with the Provincial Government of Palawan and the City Government of Puerto Princesa, and is in line with the hosting of Philippine Art Festival-Luzon in the celebration of National Arts Month.
“First na nag collaborate lahat ng miyembro ng art community, yung tatlong grupo, yung Art on the move, yung Guhit Pinas at sa amin yung Palawan Art Collective, makasaysayan to, ito ay para sa lahat hindi lang para sa ating mga indibidwal, maaari baka maging identity na to ng tinatawag nating Palawan Art,” Jonathan Benitez of Palawan Collective said during the formal start of the mural painting last Feb 5.
The artists will have the whole month of February to finish, featuring different art pieces mostly showcasing the flora and fauna of Palawan.
This is also in support of the Tourism Mile plan of the City that includes the same area of Red Hankee Lane.
“Mga dalawang dekada na rin umusbong ‘yung art community ng Palawan, so mahaba-haba na yung nilakad natin, marami ng sumusuporta kumpara noon kesa ngayon, nandito na yung mga kaibigan natin na sila mismo yung gumawa ng paraan na may project naman yung mga artists, kasi noon mismong mga artists ang gumagawa ng project para may gagawin,” Benitez said in closing.
