The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) MIMAROPA delegation enthusiastically kicked off the Elderly Filipino Week (EFW) festivities in Mendoza Park, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, on Sunday, on October 1.
Led by Princess Vagilidad, Social Welfare Officer V, with the theme of “Honoring the Invaluable Legacy of the Senior Citizen,” the event focuses on highlighting the inspiring stories and invaluable contributions of senior citizens in the development of the Philippines.
As part of the EFW celebration, the DSWD MIMAROPA Regional Social Pension Unit (RSPU) extended its support by distributing hygiene kits to senior citizens who are Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Puerto Princesa City District Jail and the Provincial Jail Management Division.
The Elderly Filipino Week, observed every year from October 1 to 7, is mandated by Proclamation No. 470, which was issued by then-President Fidel Ramos on September 26, 1994.
The proclamation underscores the responsibility of the Executive Department, particularly the Department of Social Welfare and Development, to implement social welfare programs that support and honor the elderly.
