The Department of Health (DOH) MIMAROPA marked Palawan to have the highest cases of Malaria since 2013 up to 2018.
Record shows that there is an increase of up to 7.76% of malaria case compared to last year’s data. The data shows that 3,827 cases of Malaria were recorded in 2017, rising up to 4, 128 for the year 2018.
However, despite the upscale of Malaria cases in the province, death cases declined from 2 to 1, recorded in the municipality of Bataraza. The data also marked Palawan to have the highest Malaria cases in the MIMAROPA region followed by Occidental Mindoro with only 4 cases recorded. Romblon, Marinduque were declared as Malaria-Free provinces while Oriental Mindoro remains under assessment but has zero case since 2012.
The data also listed top 5 municipalities in Palawan with highest Malaria cases: Rizal town hit 2,718 reported cases for 2018, followed by Bataraza with 3724 cases, Balabac with 329, Quezon with 219 cases and Brookes Point with 217.
