An estimated 700 student participants coming from both the elementary and secondary level schools around Palawan arrived Monday, in Narra National Highschool to compete in this year’s Division Festival Of Talents (DFOT) hosted and facilitated by the Department of Education Palawan.
DFOT, a program initiated by DepEd, is sought to showcase various talents and skills of young Palaweño students in different fields of specialty including home-economics, industrial arts, in getting them ready for the world of work.
“Ito talaga ay policy ng DepEd, it tends to enhance the talents and skills of students in getting them ready for higher learning. Kasi ‘yung bata kailangang ma-channel at maire-channel sa kanyang talents and skills in order to get them ready,” Felomina Alanis, school head of Narra National Highschool said.
Alanis also said that DFOT was derived based on the key cores of the K-12 program composing of Business, Profession and Tertiary College Education.
“Kung saan siya nakalinya. Halimbawa sa dress-making, or sa agriculture or sa bread and pastry, with which, kailangan natin ma-off shoot to the three K to 12 cores, which is negosyo, trabaho o kolehiyo,” Alanis said.
“Halimbawa, in the future gusto niyang mag-negosyo, dito palang kailangan equipped na siya,” Alanis added.
DFOT, according to Alanis, enhances and armours young students to for college life and most especially the life outside school.
DFOT is an annual event, initiated by DepEditself, together with the division schools all around the country and supported by the Local Government Unit (LGU).
This year, an estimated 700 Palaweño students coming from all 23 municipalities of Palawan converge to compete in various learning areas.
These areas, respectively, is composed of Technolympics (Technology and Livelihood Education and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood), Tagisan ng Talino (Filipino), Population Development (Araling Panlipunan), Language Skills Competition, and Sining Tanghalan (Arts).
Students from both elementary and secondary level are bracketed and will showcase skills in dress-making, painting, bread and pastry making, agricultural arts and other categories.
DFOT will run until Wednesday, November 20 to strategically select Palaweño students who will compete in the upcoming Regional Division of Talents.
