Three firecracker-related injuries were recorded in the province from December 31, 2019 to January 1, 2020 during New Year celebrations.
This is based on the recent police reports sent to the media by Police Regional Office (PRO) MIMAROPA spokesperson Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino.
The reports noted a firecracker incident in Barangay Punta Baja in the municipality of Rizal on December 31, 2019, while another two firecracker incidents were recorded on January 1 in Barangay Pawa in the town of Cuyo and Brgy. Bagong Sikat, Puerto Princesa City.
Tolentino identified the victim from Rizal town as Almera Bilnas, 49 years old and a resident of Purok Mahogany in Brgy. Puntabaja.
The report indicated Bilnas sustained minor injuries on his right, middle and index finger caused by a “roman candle” firecracker and was brought to Rizal District Hospital (RDH) for medical treatment.
Two minors from Liberty Road, Brgy. Bagong Sikat in Puerto Princesa sustained minor injuries and were brought to Cooperative Hospital for medication after a firecracker blew up inside their aunt’s house from an unknown direction.
On the other hand, Tolentino identified the victim from Cuyo town as John Adrian Cervancia Timan, 18 years old, who sustained an injury on his hand when a firecracker called “whistle bomb” exploded.
“The victim was immediately brought to Cuyo District Hospital for medical treatment, and was advised to rest after treatment by attending physician Dr. Jacqueline Vigonte,” Tolentino stated in the report.
