Pilipinas Shell was recognized as “Asia’s Community Care Company of the Year” during the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability or ACES Awards, a gathering of Asia’s most inspiring business leaders and sustainability advocates.
Pilipinas Shell was particularly recognized for two of its long-running social investment programs, both implemented by our Pilipinas Shell Foundation:
(1) The “Gas Mo, Bukas Ko” (You Fuel My Future) technical and vocational skills training program for our Shell forecourt crew. Some of our pump attendants have progressed to becoming station managers because of this up-skilling program.
Others have used the training received as a stepping stone to find better employment opportunities, here and abroad.
(2) The “Movement Against Malaria” which has significantly reduced malaria cases and deaths in the country, and has become a nationwide program instrumental for the Philippines to meet the UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG) to combat malaria ahead of the target date.
The Philippines is now moving towards the elimination of the deadly malaria disease. The private sector has a role to play in driving the sustainability agenda for the country.
For Shell, caring for communities is part of its aspiration to continue creating shared value in society and being a partner of the Philippines in national development. (PR)
