EL NIDO, Palawan — Around 30 households with 139 individuals and nearly 2,679 residents at Sitio Logpan in Barangay New Ibajay together with their adjacent communities composed mostly of Indigenous People (IP) of Tagbanua, benefitted from the recently launched energy project of Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI) Palawan.
Known as Save, Invest, Nurture Access to Green Energy (SINAG) Kiosk, the project aimed to provide access to energy and potable water using solar energy, and was formally opened last November 15, 2018.
The SINAG Kiosk is the first solar kiosk in the country with a water chlorination system designed to supply clean and potable water to the community.
Program Manager Marvi Trudeau shared that the idea was conceptualized after they witnessed the hurdles of the community members to fetch water every day from a distant place.
The kiosk will also offer solar home system units, clean-cook stoves, refrigerators, freezers and other services. It also serves as a “community center” where people can watch via kiosk’s TV.
SINAG Project Officer Yoyon Rebueno also thanked the efforts of the community for helping the project for its completion.
