As the Census of Population and Housing (CPH) for this year will kick-off in May, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)-Palawan encourages every Palaweño to participate by answering the questions that will be asked by their enumerators.
PSA-Palawan statistical specialist Jesus Sorima said during the “Kapihan sa PIA” last Feb. 27, the forthcoming simultaneous census of population will start on May 4 and will end on June 1 with the theme “Sama na, Census Na!”
During the said dates, the enumerators, mostly teachers, will visit every household in every barangay in order to get the current number of population of the City of Puerto Princesa and the Province of Palawan after it was done last 2015.
According to Sorima, based on their proposal, the Provincial PSA will need more than 1,300 manpower, including enumerators, census area supervisors, and assistant census area supervisors. For enumerators alone, they have 1,027 although the dialogue with the Department of Education is still ongoing.
The result of 15th CPH that aims to cover all population count, demography and socioeconomic characteristics, and types of houses is targeted to be released on March 2021.
Meanwhile, based on the Bulletin No. 2020-062 that PSA central office posted on their website, the CPH matters for the reason that “The Census of Population (CPH) aims to provide government executives, policy and decision makers, and planners with updated population and housing data as bases for social and economic development plans, polices, and programs at the national and local levels.”
They added that it likewise provides opportunities for the government, for the business and industries, and the academic institutions.
The Central Office also explained that the people benefit the CPH, for instance, a total of P4.1 Trillion budget has been allocated to national and local government units to speed on prioritized programs like infrastructure, health, education and housing/human settlement. Also, through the size of population, as one of the requirements, political and administrative units, including congressional districts are created.
