Sitio Binaluan residents together with Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI)-Palawan made a bamboo Christmas tree with a solar powered Christmas lights.
Program Manager Marvi Trudeau said that they don’t want to burden the community with the cost of electricity for the lights so they put up one with solar power.
“We did not want to burden the community of the power [electricity] lalo na for Christmas tree kasi ako din personally pag ako nag lalagay ng christmas light bago ako matulog tinuturn off ko mahal ang koryente di ba and I feel for them you can’t do it this way you put a Christmas tree and let the community people in kaya nga nilagay namin doon ay solar powered christmas light every morning mamatay yan pag kagabi sisindi na lang yan on its own,” Trudeau said.
“It still symbolizes renewable energy.” she added.
What makes it special is how they see the reaction of the people especially the children.
“Nakita niya yung mga bata how they really like it ‘ay ang ganda talaga ate sobrang ganda’.Ako to see them like that yun ang nakakataba ng puso,” she said.
Shell expects the community to take care of it and sustain it.
Sitio Binaluan is one of the six places in Palawan that benefitted from Save, Invest, Nurture Access to Green Energy (SINAG) programme.
