As part of its Safety and Health promotion, Berong Nickel Corporation (BNC) extended its appreciation and gratitude to its unsung heroes who actively participated in the 2019 Bloodletting Campaign held last March 26-28 at the BNC Compound, Sitio Badlisan, Brgy. Berong, Quezon, Palawan.
The bloodletting activity was facilitated by the three (3) active and very passionate Red Cross Volunteers namely: Ms. Divina D. Ragas, Ms. Sally Barairo and Ms. Teri Lamis.
Unavailability of blood may cost lives so the importance of blood donation is tremendous. This is the greatest gift one can give to the fellow humans. Voluntary blood donors are saviors of mankind. Donating blood is a great public service and one of the most effortless action we can take to help a fellow human being. Effortless in a way, that all we need to do as we donate was lie down and give a part of ourselves that our bodies produce for free. A great public service in that a single pint of blood we donate can save up to three human lives.
BNC strongly believes that donating blood is a social responsibility. That’s why BNC, in coordination with the Philippine Red Cross – Palawan Chapter, strongly endeavors to include bloodletting activities in its regular Safety & Health programs.
A total of 112 bags of blood were successfully collected in the event that was participated in by all Departments/Sections of the BNC operations. The Resident Manager, Engr. Marc Raymund L. Zamora lead the BNC team to support the said activity.
Highlighted also was the full support and participation of the BNC Department Heads, Engr. Carmelo Datangel (Mining), Engr. Alemar C. Velasco (Engineering), Mr. Jay Pee R. Dela Cruz (Environment), Mr. Elesar P. Sedon (MMS), Mr. Johniel R. Orbeta (Finance), Mr. Rolando L. Sajot (Safety & Health) including the clinic staff headed by the current company Doctor reliever Dr. Phillip T. Bañas and the two (2) company regular nurse Mr. Carl John M. Palanca and Mr. Norbert V. Marcelo.
The significant increase of donors from previous years was due to the participation of the supervisors, rank and file employees, contractors and representative coming from the community.
In total, the Environment Department had the greatest number of donors with a total of 24 donors followed by the Safety & Health Department with 21 donors.
Through this project, BNC remains committed to give charitable service as volunteer employees donated bags of blood. This is a regular activity undertaken by the company to serve people and save lives. BNC is unified to support a healthier lifestyle and most importantly to help, for they believed that being a hero means saving life in a silent but extra-ordinary way because there’s no substitute for human blood. All blood donors were given snacks and a t-shirt token with a print “I’m a HERO, it is in my Blood”.
