The City Government of Puerto Princesa through the City Agriculture Office (CAO) distributed farm tools and inputs to help low-income families in targeted rural barangays to produce food such as vegetable and other crops by establishing Organic Backyard Garden.
The distribution of tools and inputs is part of the Food Always In The Home (FAITH) program implemented by the CAO headed by City Agriculturist, Melissa Macasaet.
Each beneficiary received plastic drum (200 liter capacity), pale, rake, bolo and hoe locally known as asarol. Also provided were seedling trays, sprinking can, 1kg corn seeds, assorted vegetable seeds and organic fertilizer.
Recently, the office distributed the tools and other provisions to farmers in Barangay Manalo, Babuyan and Mauyon.
The office also urged residents of Puerto Princesa City to “Grow Local, Eat Local and Buy Local,” to support the local farmers who are producing agricultural crops for food, especially vegetables. Supporting the agricultural sector is important in sustaining food self-sufficiency in the locality while at the same time, providing income to local farmers.
