The day-long event was in line with the observance of annual celebration of International Youth Day based on Section 30 of Republic Act No. 10742, the Sanggunian Kabataan Reform Act of 2015 that mandates the observance of Linggo ng Kabataan in every barangay, municipality, city, and province on the week where the 12th of August falls to coincide with the International Youth Day (IYD).

For 2019 International Youth Day, the theme is “Transforming Education” aimed to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

For this year SK of Roxas Palawan battlecry is “Youth in Action” that aims to encourage those with ages 15-30 years old within their municipality to be active citizens and participate in the activities initiated by SK officers and councils.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader. We gathered all SK Council to be able to know their responsibility, rule, and function of being a leader because we believe as a Leader we are the next faces of the new government,” Efren Magbanua, SK Federation President of Roxas, said.

Three resource speakers were invited to facilitate the full-day event: Mr. Jemarjo Escalona, a Youth Development Officer from Puerto Princesa City Youth Development Office tackled Servant Leadership, Philippine Youth Development Plan 2017-2022, and Parliamentary Procedure.

“August 12 is the celebration of the International Youth Day. In our country, it’s a week-long celebration. Today SK officials of Roxas were gathered to form action by attending a seminar that would enable them to become more inspired, motivated and equipped. Personality development would facilitate them to be a lot conversant in their behavior, communication skills, and interpersonal skills towards other people. Those are the essential skills that a servant leader ought to possess.

“I absolutely entrust our SK’s that they will do their functions as officers in their respective barangay by conducting seminars, symposium and information dissemination by partnering with numerous government agencies and non-government agencies” said by Jemarjo Escalona, a Youth Development Officer.

As a young leader effective communication is crucial and should be developed to assist the organization to attain its objectives. Mrs. Brenda Black-Dela Rama, HR Manager from City State Asturias Hotel, stressed that communication is life to future leaders for them to be equipped in serving their organization.

The last part was the “Moto in Can” workshop by a noted native creator from Palawan, Mr. Jc Enon. He stressed the importance of youth participation in protective the surroundings via artistic skills of use and upcycling of trash. Mr. Enon conferred his design like miniature motorcycles, bicycles, yacht, tricycles made up of beverages tin can and junk materials within the gymnasium in a whole day exhibit.

The seminar-workshop participants shared their concepts and actively participated in the discussion with the guest speakers. The awarding of certificates with photo-ops ended the full productive day activity.
