As Palawan State University celebrates its 24th University Day Celebration, President Dr. Ramon M. Docto underscores the four (4) important elements he proposed that are essential to make the university stronger and better.
In his message during the President’s Hour, Dr. Docto highlighted “Retain, Revise, Reject and Renew.”
“We will only retain programs, mechanisms, policies, and practices that are useful, efficient, valid and relevant to our search for institutional progress,” Dr. Docto said adding, “We will improve policies, and physical operations that are partially useful, valid, relevant, and revise them for better efficiency.”
Dr. Docto sternly announced that they “will reject non-useful mechanisms that lead to more red tape and corruption, and projects that foster more harm to the community than good.”
“We will renew innovations that are further needed for sustainable PSU, enhance programs, and recognize the contributions of even the humblest personnel of the university,” he added.
Dr. Docto is currently the 8th president of Palawan State University. He further added that while he did not yet fully recover from the “honeymoon stage” he made observations and personal resolutions to effect the real change in the university.
That is to strengthen its municipal centers to become more responsive to the needs of the respective communities by renewing ties with the Local Government Units and revitalize relations as essential partners of the university in bringing education to the countryside. “We will keep the municipal centers within reach logistically, and give priority on their faculty and staff development,” Dr. Docto said.
The president also added that they will establish more efficient communication channels between and among the administration, students, faculty and staff, and all the stakeholders of the university to foster harmony and unity as an institution.
“We have sufficient resources and we will use them efficiently to address the physical and academic challenges of the university,” Dr. Docto added. “We will have to improve our whole procurement process, starting from the preparation of our Project Procurement Management Plans to final acceptance of the end user, and we will fully capacitate our personnel involved in the process, or should it be necessary – we will reorganize the whole structure.”
Dr. Docto added that those are just some of the deliverables that they can initially address with urgency through cooperation of everyone. “We will take change looking forward; even if it means dealing with it inch-by-inch. As long as we are moving, the goal is definitely getting closer,” Dr. Docto said.
With the theme “Embracing Changes, Responding to Challenges and Advancing Collaborations,” the university day celebration was held last November 12, 2018, organized and spearheaded by Dr. Grace N. Abrina, director of the Office of Student Affairs and Services.
The day-long activity was also capped with mental health forum, peer counseling, music festival, food park, unveiling of I Love PSU marker and the launching of Paskuhan sa PSU.
