A resolution requiring the members of “tricycle operators and drivers’ association” in Puerto Princesa to register and become members of Pag-IBIG Fund was pushed at the City Council Monday.

Councilor Elgin Damasco said this is purposed to ensure that everyone in this sector be members of Pag-IBIG Fund.

Damasco said this resolution is his response to the letter that was recently sent to his office by the agency’s officer-in-charge (OIC), Emely Pablico.

Nagpapatulong sila na ma-implement itong Republic Act (RA) No. 9679,” said Damasco.

Damasco stated this RA No. 9679 or also known as Home Development Mutual Fund Law of 2009 imposes that the Pag-IBIG membership is mandatory for “self-employed persons”.

He said this general rule also indicates that those in the transportation sector must also be mandatorily covered by the fund.

Damasco further stated there are more than 4,000 tricycles in the city as of the moment.

He added the Council also plans to invite this sector to discuss the matter by next week at the latest.
