The Palawan State University (PSU) will officially end the semester this May 31, said the university president Friday.

Dr. Ramon Docto, the PSU President, told Palawan Daily News (PDN) Friday, May 29, that the teachers will be given 10 days to submit the grades of their students, being June 10 as the final grades due.

“Actually magtatapos na [ang semester] itong [May] 31, ito nga [sanang] Friday we have to finish until this day pero pinapayagan kahit Saturday [and] Sunday, pinapayagan na lang. Pero wala nang klase simula pa noon. Walang pasok sila face to face,” said Docto.

“Paalala lang sa mga estudyante, actually dapat nagtapos na ‘yong semester noong May 9 pero nag-extend tayo up to May 31 para mabigyan kayo ng pagkakataong mag-submit ng mga requirements at ang sinabi din naman ng mga teachers [ay] they have to practice leniency,” he added.

Dr. Docto said the teachers also vowed to be merciful to the students, considering all the limitations, inconvenience, and crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Docto added that student requirements are submitted online or personally, but with strict compliance to all the measures imposed by the government toward public health safety.

He stated those who will not be able to submit all their requirements until May 31 shall be given up to one year to comply.

He further stated that the enrollment is set on the second or third week of August, while the start of classes will be by September of the same year.

Docto reiterated the classes are still expected to be done online, but noted they are going to release further announcement sooner for the concrete guidelines, which he said will heavily depend upon the recommendation coming from the national level authorities.

Docto said he just had a meeting Friday afternoon, May 29, with Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Director and all the university presidents in the entire of MIMAROPA.

“Ito nga ‘yong pinag-usapan ‘yong mga preparation. So tayo ang ating bakasyon ngayon [ay] from June 1 up to August 9,” said Docto.

He said the teachers of PSU will start reporting by August 10.

Docto added that the freshmen online application is already ongoing.

“Ongoing ngayon ang mga application for new students online. Meron din iba na parang pupunta dito, pero paunti-unti lang, at saka may limitation ‘yong mga bata na edad below 21 hindi siya dapat pupunta,” said Docto.
