The repatriated Palawan Pangolin from Batangas is currently undergoing a recovery procedure under the care of Katala Foundation, Inc. (KFI) in the Municipality of Narra, as preparation for its release back to its natural habitat.

In posted information of Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) last July 21, it says that one adult male Philippine Pangolin (𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴), commonly called as Balintong, was repatriated to Palawan through the efforts of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources -Regional Office No. IV-A (DENR-CALABARZON) which shipped the said wildlife from Metro Manila to Puerto Princesa City via an airplane on July 20.

The PCSDS further stated that they received a letter from DENR-CALABARZON stating that on July 14, 2020, their office received one Philippine Pangolin from Engr. Alvert Calingasan, OIC Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Balayan, Batangas.

In the same letter, DENR-CALABARZON said that Engr. Calingasan told them that the said Pangolin was captured in the vicinity of the residence of a certain Yolanda Angeles in Brgy. Tanggoy, Balayan, Batangas last July 13, 2020.

And after the pangolin was rescued, it was then transferred to the office of the DENR-CENRO in Calaca City, Batangas until July 18, 2020, and was finally shipped to Puerto Princesa City by virtue of a Wildlife Transport Permit issued by DENR-PENRO Batangas and a Shipping Permit issued by the Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI).

Upon the arrival of the said Pangolin, one of the Wildlife Traffic Monitoring Officers of PCSDS, Mr. Alexis R. Alberio, received the animal at the Puerto Princesa City International Airport on behalf of PCSDS Executive Director Teodoro Jose S. Matta.

Afterwards, it was brought to the PCSDS office in Brgy. Sta. Monica for immediate medical checkup and biometrics procedure. The pangolin’s body weight is 5,275 grams, with a tail length of 57 centimeter and a total length of 126 centimeter.

“The Philippine Pangolin is listed as a ‘Critically Endangered’ species under PCSD Resolution No. 15-521. If you happen to find any wildlife within your vicinity, please report it immediately to our office thru hotline numbers 0935-116-2336 (Globe/TM) and 0948-937-2200 (Smart/TNT). You may also send a message to our Facebook page for your concerns,” PCSDS appeals to the public.
