Architecture major Renz Ian Machado design of “Ang Kalabaw” made it as the Top 4 in the sketch design contest for Envision your Imagination by Yamaha, an online competition “Makina” wherein the winner will have the said version of the design to be built by the brand. The competition had 700 entries all over the Philippines, Machado’s entry is so close to make it to the Top 3 winning entries.
Former Imago band drummer and now motorcyclist enthusiast Zach Lucero announced the result last August 18, and he specifically mentioned Machado’s work having a tie in the third spot, but he is pleased with “Ang Kalabaw” that’s why he still give Machado many special freebies.
“Ang Kalabaw is created by Renz Machado, your work is pretty nice also and I like it, and I want to give you something for getting this far in the competition, you got so close ‘di ba, parang so close yet you know,” Lucero said in a video posted in Makina page.
According to Machado, it took him 2 weeks to finish the said artwork, he used to join many poster and art making contests in his Younger years in Puerto Princesa, but this is the first time he joined a nationwide contest, it added pressure since he have so much respect with Lucero.
“Dito kasi sa Palawan medyo rough road pa tayo di ba, yung design ko built na gamitin dito sa atin marami pa kasing lubak-lubak dito, yung kalabaw kasi yung simbolo niya parang pinoy, ‘yong kalabaw gamit ng mga magsasaka, ‘yong materials nya made of carabao skin ang leather na upuan and then ‘yong handle nya gawa sa kamagong, ‘yong hardwood sa Pilipinas,” Machado said.
Even though bagging the fourth spot, Machado felt fulfilled and happy, the praises and commendations he got online is enough for him to be grateful. He still wanted to create or build “Ang Kalabaw” design someday as a real motorcycle.
“Masaya na rin being recognize by Sir Zach na grabe ang reputasyon niya dahil isa siya sa mga founders ng Makina, and then sya din founder ng Motobuilds Pilipinas, napaka ano na rin sa akin na ma recognize, and then yung support ng mga tao, mga pamilya ko at mahal sa buhay, mga friends and random people na nagsasabi na sana makapasok, medyo masaya na rin ako kasi wala na rin talo,” Machado share.
24 year old Machado graduate BS Architecture from Palawan State University last 2017, a resident of Brgy. San Miguel here in Puerto Princesa, he is scheduled to take his board exam as Architect last June, but due to pandemic it was cancelled.
