Puerto Princesa City – The City Tourism Office anticipates a surge in visitor numbers in the coming months, particularly with the holiday season approaching, according to City Tourism Chief Demetrio Alvior Jr.
Alvior reports a remarkable 404,752 tourist arrivals from January to October, utilizing the “Tourism Live Inventory and Statistics of Tourist Arrivals” or TourLista web tool provided by the Department of Tourism MIMAROPA.
Puerto Princesa’s charm is on the brink of being elevated by a lineup of esteemed global competitions. Among these is the eagerly awaited World Table Tennis – Youth Contender, slated to take place from October 15 to 21 at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum, drawing competitors from more than twelve nations.
The city is also preparing to host the Ironman 70.3 Puerto Princesa and the International Dragon Boat Festival in November.
Yet, the most exhilarating anticipation revolves around the Subaraw Biodiversity Festival, eagerly awaited by participants from diverse countries, encompassing those vying in competitions such as the PPUR Bird Photography Contest and the Ms. Subaraw Festival Queen 2023 pageant.
Alvior is mobilizing stakeholders to guarantee the flawless execution of these international events and to provide a hospitable and inviting experience showcasing Filipino hospitality.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) – Puerto Princesa is taking comprehensive measures to enhance airport security.
In response to a recent email bomb threat, the agency has reinforced security protocols at the Puerto Princesa International Airport, elevating it to a Heightened Alert Status.
CAAP, on the other hand, has significantly increased vigilance and baggage inspections, both for departing passengers and those in the departure area.
This heightened security isn’t limited to Puerto Princesa alone; San Vicente and Busuanga Airports are also being closely monitored. Additional personnel have been deployed, alongside the Philippine National Police (PNP) and K9 units.
While the use of face masks isn’t mandatory, CAAP is encouraging passengers to adhere to their preferred health protocols as they travel to promote safety and public health, especially in shared spaces like airports.
