President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed Proclamation No. 368, officially declaring the regular holidays and special (non-working) days for the year 2024.
While this proclamation brings much-anticipated clarity to the holiday calendar, it also comes with notable changes, such as the exclusion of EDSA People Power Revolution anniversary.
This historic event, celebrated every February 25, is notably absent from the list of special (non-working) days.
The decision to not include the EDSA People Power Revolution in the list of special non-working holidays for 2024, despite its historical significance, stems from a longstanding practice of reserving holidays primarily for weekdays in the Philippines.
The Office of the President has affirmed that this choice was made to maintain a balance between acknowledging significant events and ensuring the regular flow of work schedules.
Meanwhile, in a curious contrast, December 8, which is also a Sunday in 2024, has been included in the list of holidays for this year to celebrate the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
