In the recently concluded 10-day event of the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) held in Oslo, Norway, Sarji Elijah Bona, son of a known businessman in the City of Puerto Princesa, represented the Philippines in the top Math competition and brought home an “honorable mention”, among his five (5) Filipino teammates, last July 16, 2022.
During his elementary days in Palawan Hope Christian School (PHCS), he was popularly known for his ability to beat his senior schoolmates or high school students in contests in their school.
Further into his Mathematics journey, he was also sent to district, regional, and national contests against high school to college students, in solving easy to entirely hard mathematical equations which have brought him multiple awards in the long run.
After concluding his junior high academic years in PHCS, he is now in 12th Grade at the De La Salle University – Integrated School.
The Philippine team for the Olympiad in Oslo, Norway was led by Dr. Christian Paul Chan Shio, on behalf of the Mathematical Society of the Philippines (MSP).
Dr. Chan Shio was also joined by Hazel Joy Shi and Russelle Guadalupe as observers.
There were 589 contestants from 104 countries who battled it out in the competition.
