The local government of Puerto Princesa is slowly easing its restrictions on COVID-19 mandates to slowly open its economy especially with the month of December nearing and people are expected to celebrate the holiday season with their friends and families.
On their social media live update on November 1, Local Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) Spokesperson Attorney Norman Yap said that they discussed on Saturday, October 30, how the city will slowly implement liniency with the measures being implemented while on GCQ classification. “…ang una nating kino-consider sa local IATF,” Attorney Norman Yap said ,”’yung cases natin mataas pa rin, hindi natin dine-deny po yun pero mukhang nagfa-flatten po, nagsa-stabilize at 900 to 1,000 [cases of COVID-19] at so far nako-control at that level. At base sa studies, puwedeng bumaba yan at later by middle of November, that’s the projection.”
Active cases of COVID-19 in the city started to rise on September peaking at 1,170 on October 11 but has since gone down and maintained its number at around 900. “Pangalawa pagdating sa vaccination program, binabantayan din po natin yung mga number doon po ‘no… at papalapit na tayo sa 69 thousand fully vaccinated residents ng Puerto Princesa,” he added.
Atty. Yap also shared that base on the data of the Puerto Princesa City COVID-19 Vaccination Council (PPC-COVAC) as of October 29, the city has jabbed 149,973 total doses of vaccines against COVID-19 where 69,918 are now fully inoculated while the 11,973 are awaiting their second dose, as the capacity to vaccinate has significantly improved.
The LGU planned to inoculate 210,00 or 70% of its eligible population at the beginning of the year and has reached 71%, including first and second doses, despite vaccine hesitancy, shortage of COVID-19 vaccines, and other obstacles present.
Meanwhile, Puerto Princesa is also on its way of reopening its tourism to help start the economy amidst the pandemic.
