Health and sports enthusiasts, civic groups, local runners organization, JCI members, students, and individuals responded and expressed their unity in a fun run organized by JCI Puerto Princesa Oil dubbed as “Amos Ta Run, Takbo Mo 2,” which not only promotes fitness but volunteerism, as well.
Over 1,000 runners gathered at Baywalk Grounds, Puerto Princesa City, 4:00 AM, February 17, 2019 to support this event for a cause.
This year, the organizer encouraged and invited students of Palawan State University and STI National Training Service Program – Civic Welfare Training Services (NSTP – CWTS) to join to promote fitness and provide assistance to beneficiaries of Oplan Kaagapay.
Oplan Kaagapay is a national project of JCI Philippines, which provides immediate assistance to victims of calamities and natural disasters which displace families, destroy livelihood, and even claim lives. JCI Philippines aims to be one of the first responders to disaster victims, not only to provide the basic necessities that are mostly needed after the devastation, but more importantly, to provide short-term measures to support recovery and rehabilitation.
RSJ Thunderfoot Taekwondo Academy members prepared all runners through a “Warm-up” exercise. Then, at exactly 5:00 AM first gun start was heard for a 10-kilometer participants, followed by 5-kilometer participants at 5:15 AM. And last gun start at 5:20 AM for 3-kilometer runners.
The Power of Youth dominated this year’s “Amos Ta Run” as they were the first 25 finishers per category. They received medals made of tin can by Moto in Can of JCI Oil member Jc Enon.
Rexlin Azarcon, 2019 Chapter President of JCI Puerto Princesa Oil, said that success of 2nd Amos Ta Run is because of the students’ involvement. Participation of students in community service helps them to be prepared to build a better nation and become a catalyst of change thus making a big difference in their community.
After the run, organizers prepared a short program. It included RSJ Thunderfoot Taekwondo Academy “Cool Down” exercise followed by Zumba dance from the PSU students.
Mr. Azarcon said that because of the success of this year’s Amos Ta Run Takbo Mo 2, the Amos Ta Run 2020 would be a bigger event next year as they expect more participation from other agencies, NGOs, more students, companies and individuals.
