The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) of Puerto Princesa recently spearheaded a three-day workshop to update the city’s contingency plans for identified hazards.
According to the CDRRMO, the event—formally known as the Follow-through Hazards Contingency Planning Workshop FY 2026–2029—was made possible through its Research and Planning Section.
These include five priority hazards: Fire, Flood, Storm Surge, Tsunami, and Drought. Also included is the newly formulated Sanitary Landfill Fire Contingency Plan.
The CDRRMO, headed by CDRRM Officer Earl H. Timbancaya, stated that this is to further strengthen the City’s preparedness and response mechanisms for emerging and site-specific risks.
The workshop was attended by members of the DRRM Response Clusters and partner stakeholders. Participants included various national government agencies, uniformed services (Armed Forces, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine Coast Guard), and different departments and offices of the city government and local organizations.
Contingency plans are proactive, mandated tools considered necessary for every Local Government Unit (LGU). They are designed to ensure timely, effective, and coordinated responses to man-made and natural hazards.
These plans bridge the gap between preparedness and emergency response by outlining specific action steps, identifying resources, and assigning roles before a disaster strikes.
“Through collaborative planning and technical discussions, the activity is expected to reinforce inter-agency coordination, clarify operational protocols, and build a stronger foundation for disaster preparedness and emergency response for FY 2026–2029,” the CDRRMO said in a statement.
