The City Government of Puerto Princesa intends to construct an evacuation center within the urban area of the city to accommodate families and individuals affected by both natural and man-calamities.

City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron said during the recent meeting of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) that he observed that when calamity displaced large number of individuals and families, they are evacuated in either barangay halls, public schools, and barangay covered courts, which disrupts the classes and operations of these barangay offices and facilities.

He explained that it is necessary that the City Government will construct an evacuation center that can accommodate 300 families or more, that will be convenient for calamity-displaced individuals and families.

“Its about time na mag-construct tayo ng evacuation center. Ang challenge natin sa urban ay kung saan yung area” he told members of the CDRRMC composed of the different national government agencies including uniformed personnel, other national government offices, city government functionaries, and private sector and civil society organization members.

While the CDRRMC members welcomed this proposed facility, no identified proposed site yet since the Mayor informed that they need to look for a site where to construct the facility.

CPDC Engr Jovenee C Sagun informed that they initially consider an area in Magarwak but later found out that there were claimants to these areas.

Mayor Bayron said that he will instruct the City Assessor’s Officer, Engr Joven Baluyut to look for possible sites for the proposed evacuation center.

City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (CDDRMO) Earl Timbancaya informed Mayor Bayron and other CDRRMC members that there is a need to allocate a separate funds from the General Fund of the City Government and not from the CDRRM Fund, intended for the purchase and acquisition of parcel of land intended for the construction of the evacuation center.
