Known environmentalist advocate Edilberto “Edong” Magpayo is thrilled to report that many of Puerto Princesans are now turning to to reusable bags to to lessen the use of plastics in buying goods in the public market. This is somehow seen a “new normal” as more and more are using the eco bag, bayong, yantok even katsa while shopping.
Magpayo said that while going around the Old Public Market, he saw a lot of consumers bring in their own bags and some even bring their Tupperware and used ice cream containers for meat, fish and other wet products. In just one day of observing, Edong counted around 16 market goers practice the said pro-environment act.
“Saludo sa ilan nating mga kababayan na isinasa-puso, isinasabuhay at isinasagawa ang pagsunod sa ordinansa ukol sa Ordinance No. 993 on Single Use Plastic and Styrofoam Regulation in Puerto Princesa,” Magpayo said on his Facebook post.
The said founder of “Ayaw ni Prinsesa Ng Plastic” Facebook Page hopes that more will adopt the said practice and widen awareness, not only in the city but throughout Palawan, in protecting our environment and be intentional in refusing the usage of plastic.
