As architects, those who work outside the bustling metropolis of Metro Manila face unique challenges and opportunities. Often, they strive and grind every day to make their mark in the field of architecture, striving to stay updated with the latest trends and advancements. For these architects, the upcoming National Convention 48th or NATCON48, initiated by the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), holds immense significance as it promises to provide them with a platform to expand their knowledge, connect with colleagues, and have a memorable experience.

Scheduled to take place on April 19-22, 2023, at the prestigious Philippine International Convention Center, NATCON48 carries the theme of “Future-Ready Architects in the Better Normal.” It is set to be an exciting event that brings together architects from all corners of the country, including those from provincial areas who may not have easy access to similar opportunities for professional development.

One of the notable features of NATCON48 is the diverse range of seminars that will be conducted, covering various approaches in architecture. Topics such as Architects in Tourism Architecture, Architects in Hospital & Healthcare Facility, Architects in Project Construction Management, in Design-Build Services, in Government Service, in Academe, and Architects in Liturgical Architecture will be explored. These seminars will be led by invited resource speakers who are renowned locally and internationally for their expertise in their respective fields, providing valuable insights and perspectives to the participants.

Notably, NATCON48 also pays homage to National Artist Ar. Leandro Locsin, whose masterpiece, the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), along with four other important artworks, has been declared as the National Cultural Treasure. This recognition highlights the significance of the event and the role of architects in shaping the cultural landscape of the Philippines.

Furthermore, NATCON48 promises a fresh and exciting experience with a new format for the seminars, designed to make learning more engaging and enjoyable. The NatCon Organizing Committee has conceptualized three-night-themed festivities to bring back camaraderie among colleagues and industry partners, creating opportunities for networking and collaboration. This promises to be a #newNATCONexperience that provincial architects can look forward to, as they connect with like-minded professionals and build lasting relationships.

For provincial architects, NATCON48 is not just an event to gain knowledge and expertise, but also a platform to be a part of a larger community of architects in the Philippines. It provides an opportunity to bridge the gap between the provincial and metropolitan architectural practices, allowing architects from different regions to come together, learn from each other, and collaborate towards the betterment of the architecture profession in the country.

NATCON48 is an event that provincial architects should not miss. It offers a unique opportunity for professional growth, networking, and camaraderie, which can contribute to their career success and make a lasting impact on their architectural practice. As they gear up for NATCON48, provincial architects can look forward to a new and exciting experience that empowers them to be future-ready architects in the better normal. Get ready and be part of NATCON48.

The architectural community in Palawan is abuzz with excitement as 35 talented architects from the province who are members of the United Architects of the Philippines- Palawan Chapter gear up for the upcoming NATCON48. For the Palaweño architects, this is not just an opportunity to showcase their skills and expertise, but also a chance to represent their province with pride. Palawan, known for its breathtaking natural wonders, is home to a vibrant community of architects who are deeply committed to sustainable design and preserving the unique heritage of the province.

As delegates at NATCON48, these Palaweño architects are eager to learn from their fellow professionals, participate in workshops and seminars, and network with industry leaders. They are looking forward to gaining insights into the latest advancements in architecture, such as green building practices, resilient design, and smart cities, and how these concepts can be integrated into their work in Palawan.

One of the unique experiences that Palaweño architects may bring to NATCON48 is their deep connection to the local culture and environment. Palawan is known for its indigenous communities and diverse ecosystems, and many Palaweño architects draw inspiration from these rich resources in their design work. They incorporate sustainable materials, traditional building techniques, and vernacular architecture to create structures that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally friendly and culturally relevant.

In addition, Palaweño architects often face unique challenges due to the remote locations and limited resources in the province. They have to find innovative solutions to adapt to the local climate, terrain, and materials while still meeting the functional and aesthetic requirements of their clients. This resourcefulness and resilience are valuable soft skills that they can share with their peers at NATCON48, as they discuss best practices for working in challenging environments.

The Palaweño architects also take pride in their commitment to community engagement and social responsibility. Many of them are involved in social projects that contribute to the development of their local communities, such as designing sustainable housing for indigenous peoples, improving school facilities, and promoting heritage conservation. They believe that architecture can be a powerful tool for positive change, and they are eager to share their experiences and insights with their fellow architects at the convention.
