The 2nd Synchronized Pista ng Kalikasan, organized by the Provincial Government-Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) under the leadership of Provincial ENRO Atty. Noel E. Aquino, witnessed active participation from 22 municipalities across the province.
This environmental event was held on June 5, 2024, as part of the 30th Pista ng Kalikasan celebration and the Baragatan Festival 2024, coinciding with the 122nd anniversary of the establishment of Palawan’s civil government.
Various planting sites across the participating municipalities were abuzz with activity, involving local government officials, national government representatives, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic institutions, private sector participants, barangay officials, and residents.
The primary goal of this initiative was to enhance the province’s reforestation efforts by increasing the number of mangroves and hardwood trees, thus preserving the mountainous regions and safeguarding watershed areas. This effort, directed by Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates, aims to mitigate natural disasters such as floods and landslides.
An estimated one million mangrove propagules and various hardwood seedlings, including species like narra, ipil, nato, and manggis, were successfully planted. Each planting site across Palawan saw over 40,000 seedlings planted. The Forest Land Use Restoration Network (FLRN) of PG-ENRO provided strategic guidance on high-priority areas for these restoration activities.
This year’s Pista ng Kalikasan theme, “Kapit Kamay sa Pagpapanumbalik ng Luntiang Kapaligiran, Hakbang Para sa Inang Kalikasan,” was jointly promoted by PG-ENRO, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), mining companies, and local governments of the 23 municipalities and barangays.
Reflecting on last year’s event, the inaugural 1st Synchronized Pista ng Kalikasan saw participation from 13 municipalities, including Rizal, Quezon, Aborlan, San Vicente, El Nido, Culion, Coron, Dumaran, Roxas, Narra, Sofronio Española, Brooke’s Point, and Kalayaan.
PG-ENRO expressed profound gratitude to all participants for their commitment to this significant mission for Mother Nature.
