The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted a soggy start to the week, with four weather systems influencing conditions across the archipelago.
On Monday, PAGASA highlighted the ongoing effects of the northeast monsoon (amihan), the shear line, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and localized thunderstorms.
In the northern provinces, including Cagayan Valley and the Cordillera Administrative Region, the amihan remains dominant, delivering steady rains under overcast skies. These cold, dry winds from Siberia are expected to keep temperatures cooler and the terrain damp.
Meanwhile, the convergence of warm easterly winds with the monsoon forms the shear line, bringing sporadic rainfall and thunderstorms to central areas like Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Quezon. The ITCZ continues to influence the southern regions, notably Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao, with unsettled weather marked by frequent downpours.
Metro Manila and the greater Luzon area will see varying cloudiness and occasional showers driven by localized thunderstorms, while northern Luzon will experience relatively milder effects of the amihan.
PAGASA Weather Specialist Obet Badrina assured the public there are currently no low-pressure areas developing within or near the Philippine Area of Responsibility, a relief for a nation that has weathered its share of late-season typhoons.
