The House of Representatives filed a resolution today declaring February 3 of every year as the “Ramon V. Mitra Commemorative Day” at the House of Representatives, introduced by current Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, Majority Floor Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Minority Floor Leader Bienvenido Abante.
The resolution stated Mitra’s contribution as a veteran lawyer and journalist that inspired many Filipino youth and leaders as the main reason for the commemoration.
This is in line with his 20th Death Anniversary this year 2020, to which a three-day Photo Exhibit is scheduled in the last week of session this March 9 to 11 at the Batasan Complex in Quezon City.

In a statement sent to Palawan Daily News by former Palawan Governor Abraham Mitra, the family is honored for this recognition.
“Today marks the 92nd birthday of Palawan’s favorite son, while we continue to be sad and miss him we wish that the lessons he has passed on will be an inspiration to all. Starting from almost scratch to almost becoming the President of the country is a story to be told to this and future generations. It’s a great honor for the two seats of Governments were named after him such as the Provincial Capitol and the Annex building of the House of Representatives,” Mitra said.
The Mitra Family will sponsor a special Mass at 6:00 in the evening at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral to be attended by close family friends, and it’s open to the public. The family is also planning a series of activities for the 20th death anniversary on March 20.
