The official 29 candidates of Miss Puerto Princesa 2020 were officially introduced to the local media. The contenders include 7 college students and 15 senior high students, all representing and endorsed by different barangays, schools and universities in the City.

Local pageant director Geofred “Favs” Gabo, who handled Miss Puerto Princesa for the past three years, said that they want to do some reforms in staging the annual search.

According to him, based on their observations, most of the contestants in the past are just the same ones from other local pageants, and they also want to attract more audiences this time, particularly those from far-flung areas of Puerto Princesa.

“Makikita nyo naman na wala din talaga na nakasali na before sa limang pageant, lahat ng candidate dyan hindi nakasali ng Miss Puerto, Miss Subaraw, Mutya ng Palawan, Miss Palawan at Miss Silka, lahat yan fresh sa mga pageant dito, yung time na ni-lay down namin yung guidelines parang yung mga kapitan dun sa malalayo nagka-interes sila na sumali,” Gabo said.

Here is the official list of candidates this year: Wilein Grace Adion from AMA Computer Learning Center, Regine Bea Longakit from Bacungan, Febecate Morales from Bagong Sikat, Kahtleen Molina from Bagong Silang, Emma Durante from Bahile, Carmela Abaa from Cabayugan, Samantha Nicole Buenaventura from Concepcion, Analiza Biarez from Irawan, Bea Marinella King from Luzviminda, Rhyna Joy Samson from Macarascas, Christine Joy Tesorio from  Mangingisda, Antoinette Gacayan from Masikap, Luise Joy Gallardo from Matahimik, Grimme Sanchez from Model, Keicy Cortado from Pagkakaisa, Fritzie Mendoza from Palawan National School, Xena Ashbel Bunio from Palawan State University, Francis Diane Tarin from Palawan Technological College, Inc, Sheffield Marie Maravilla from Puerto Princesa City National Science High School, Katrina San Jose from Salvacion, Jemina Ompad from San Manuel, Immee Kassandra Tejido from San Miguel National High School, Irish May Villalva from San Pedro, Kimberly Omolon from Sicsican, Aidee Heredero from Sicsican National High School, Boblhyn Iligan from Sta. Monica, Rosario Quaimco from System Technology Institute College and Juliet Anne Tuazon of Tagburos.

Gabo said that they are doing something new in staging Miss Puerto coronation on March 3 at the City Coliseum, such as a new stage design that is first to be seen in any local pageant is what excites them. He assured everyone that the pageant will not run up to midnight, citing that the committee of Balayong Festival is strict to finish the coronation proper before 10:00PM.

“Pagdating sa coronation alam na namin kung sino ang magiging top 15, after the opening dance cut na agad sya, so parang Miss Universe ang pattern nya, alam na namin na medyo mabilis yun,” Gabo explained.

The most beautiful Puerto Princesan will take home P30,000 cash and another P20,000 cash will be given to the winning barangay or school. The first runner-up is getting P20,000 cash and P15,000 for the second placer, and P5,000 cash as consolation for the non-winning candidates.

ABS-CBN Patroller and former Mutya ng Pilipinas Ganiel Krishna is the only guest celebrity to take on as the pageant host.

Gabo said that there is no truth to the speculations that the reigning Miss Puerto Princesa Philine Dimla will not deliver a farewell walk as the past three winners including Dimla will all be present during the coronation ceremony.

Manila-based fashion designer John Cliff will dress all the candidates from opening wear, swimsuits and long gown. Cliff said that the themes of his creations are by colors while the opening production is all summed up with a gold touch.

The people of Puerto Princesa will have the power to decide for this year’s winner. There will be online voting, and on-site voting during the Talent and Casual wear competition at SM City Puerto Princesa, and also on the coronation night. The three voting system will automatically give slots to the Top 15 cut.
