June Ocampo discovered his passion for writing music when their teacher asked them to write and perform a song. Reaping applause from his classmates, the now-19- year-old composer began posting his original songs and covers on YouTube two years ago. A little over a week ago, he released his debut single.
“May subject kase kami dati na Contemporary Arts […] tapos pinagawa kami ng kanta, pero hindi ko inexpect na makakagawa ako ng magandang kanta na positive yung reaction ng audience. Then from there, naisip ko gumawa ng kanta kahit whack ng mabuo kong lyrics or progressions tinuloy-tuloy ko lang,” June said in an interview with Palawan Daily.
Through acoustic style and with lyrics mostly about love and heartbreak, he draws his inspiration from Ed Sheeran and Moira Dela torre. While the tone and style of his music were initially sad songs, the debut single is more pop with bouncy drums.
Featuring another local artist $eb, and production credits with June on the guitar and Latriso of Verdant Clique on the drums and for mixing, the song ”TIWALA” is about gaining a person’s trust before committing into a relationship with that person.
“Well, yung song talaga is about confessing my feeling to the person I like […] and syempre para makapasok ka sa ganung relationship, syempre ang pinaka-foundation ay makuha mo yung tiwala ng isang tao, […] ang title talaga nung una is “Hindi Ka Na Mag-iisa” pero nagkaroon ng changes nung naisulat ko na.” he said.
With the help of Tavid of Verdant Clique, he released the song on September 17 on all streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music.
Ocampo thanks the people who have already listened to his song and says that there are more to come, including a music video for “TIWALA”. And there will be more singles to blast out of the speakers, too, soon.
“TIWALA” has over 4,000 streams on Spotify since its release and garnered more than 1,000 views on YouTube. June Ocampo also amassed over 1,000 monthly listeners days after the release.
