Dainty Clarice V. Rabang, a 26-year-old geoscientist from Palawan, has been celebrated for her excellence and expertise, earning the title of Honorable Mention for Geoscience Ambassador of the Year by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Out of 76 nominees worldwide, Rabang stands out as the lone Filipina recognized for her contributions to the field of geology in 2024. Alongside Rabang, Halleya Ekandjo from Namibia and George Rwegoshora Kato from the United Republic of Tanzania received Honorable Mentions, while Gyslaine Mansilla from Chile was crowned UNESCO’s Geoscience Ambassador of the Year.

Rabang, currently serving as Project Officer III and Climate Resilient Development Section Head at the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), aims to bridge the gap between science and local communities, particularly in Palawan.

She completed her education in Palawan and pursued higher studies at prestigious institutions such as the University of the Philippines-Diliman, Rabang embodies dedication and passion for her field. She has also volunteered in disaster risk reduction efforts and shared her expertise as a lecturer and resource speaker.

Palawan Governor V. Dennis M. Socrates expressed his pride and congratulated Rabang for her well-deserved recognition.

The recognition ceremony took place during the Open Meeting of the International Geosciene Program Council (IGPC) of UNESCO on March 12, marking a significant milestone in Rabang’s career and the global acknowledgment of her contributions to geoscience.
