The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) has identified three Yaman ng Kalusugan Program (Yakap) health care providers in Puerto Princesa City namely Ospital ng Palawan (ONP), Adventist Hospital and Puerto Princesa City Health Office (CHO).

Under Yakap, a Philhealth member or his/her dependents can avail medical checkup, medicines, cancer screening tests, and laboratory in accredited Yakap clinic or health care providers. Yakap is intended for every Filipinos, a Philhealth member need to register his/her preferred accredited Yakap clinic.

It described this program as a community-centered initiative intended to expand access to essential health services. It has been observed that many Filipinos delay treatment due to costs, especially senior citizens and low-income families. Yakap this time, deals with this by offering preventive and continuous care.

Philhealth has set up desk this week at the New City Hall of Puerto Princesa, distributing and accepting Philhealth Konsulta registration forms from city government employees. The Philhealth staff informed that their Yakap program is an enhanced version of the Konsultasyong Sulit at Tama (Konsulta) Program. It promotes preventive care through early disease detection and access to medicines.

Under Yakap, beneficiaries are entitled to free regular checkups and medicines worth up to P20,000 annually, including 75 generic drugs in Guaranteed and Accessible Medications for Outpatient Treatment (GAMOT) facilities such as antimicrobials, antithrombotics, anti-asthma and COPD, antidiabetic, antidyslipidemia, and antihypertensive medicines. They can also access to 13 laboratory tests, including complete blood count (CBC), lipid profile, fasting blood sugar, oral glucose tolerance test, HbA1c, creatinine, chest X-ray, sputum microscopy, ECG, urinalysis, Pap smear, fecalysis, and fecal occult blood test. Patients can also avail six cancer screening tests, including mammogram, breast ultrasound, low-dose chest CT scan, alpha fetoprotein, liver ultrasound, and colonoscopy.
