House assistant minority leader Rep. Arlene Brosas on Wednesday, March 22, filed a House Bill 7758 that seeks to grant a two-day paid medical leave to women suffering severe period pain in both public and private companies.
The proposed “Menstruation Leave Act” states that every female employee, except pregnant and menopausal women, shall be entitled to a monthly menstruation leave of up to two days and assures that she will be entitled to 100% compensation for the day.
The leave will cover both private and public sector staff, regardless of the nature of their employment.
Once the bill gets approved, non-compliant employers or those found violating it may receive a fine not exceeding P100,000 or imprisonment of not less than 30 days or more than six months.
