Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Rontgene Solante, in an earlier interview in CNN’s “New Day”, reiterated that elders and those with commorbidity must still patronize the use of face masks, should the mandate be lifted on the last quarter of this year.

“It should be only for selected population and there are populations that will still be wearing the mask like the vulnerable: those elderly or those immunocompromised,” said Solante.

He said those countries who no longer require the use of face masks also has a good record of residents who have already been fully-vaccinated, plus, stable healthcare facilities that are highly reliable for possible case outbreaks that may result from being mask-free.

With the possible lifting of the face mask policy, Solante also warns the public that given with the upcoming elections that needs multiple gatherings, this may also stem to the spike of cases.

The Infectious Disease Specialist also strengthened the fact that the use of face masks helped the country to somehow control the cases.

However, in the same program earlier, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III also reminded the public that the country being mask-free is still not on discussion, saying that IATF has yet to discuss the gradual shifting to “new-normal”.
