The Philippines is expecting 2 to 3 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer to arrive in the vicinity by the end of January, Presidential Adviser and Deputy Chief Implementer for the National Task Force against COVID-19, Secretary Vince Dizon, announced in an interview with CNN Philippines’ The Source, early Thursday.
“Only Pfizer has an approved EUA for below 12 years old, those aged five to 11. But, we’re waiting for the formulation for five- to 11-year olds which will arrive by the end of January,” he further discussed.
Initially, the government ordered about 15 million Pfizer doses for the age group of 5-11-year-olds and aims to purchase an additional 10 million doses.
“We have ordered 15 million doses for kids aged five to 11. We expect an initial delivery of maybe anywhere between two to three million doses by the end of January. What I know is, when the delivery commences, there will be arrivals every two weeks,” Dizon added.
Now, the government is also looking into reviewing three EUA applications for Covaxin (Bharat Biotech), CoronaVac from Sinovac, and Sinopharm vaccines to minors.
The country is prioritizing the introduction of Pfizer vaccine to children aged 12 and below for its known 90.7-percent efficacy against the severe symptoms of the virus.
