United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Palawan Chapter recently conducted its 1st General Membership Meeting (GMM) in Puerto Princesa City and bared plans and programs for the fiscal year 2022-2023, dubbed as Arampangan 1.0.

“After years of not holding a general membership meeting due to strict health protocols, I was overjoyed that we actually had a quorum. The entire Executive Committee and Board of Directors of UAP Palawan are very enthusiastic about this fiscal year because it will help us achieve our aim of improving our profession’s standing in society and embrace the vision of elevating Palaweño architects in every way,” said Arch. Jhoann May Cabanting, UAP Palawan Chapter President.

“Thank you so much for your support and for keeping UAP Palawan consistently united in the goal of promoting our profession. May we always offer our cherished client’s excellent products and services, along with our business partners. May we work together to create greater partnerships for a better world,” Arch. Cabanting said.

“After completing our Arampangan 1.0, the members were undoubtedly really excited to think about what future held. In a good way, everyone here is excited and challenged,” Arch. Cabanting added. Arampangan is a local Cuyonon term that means ‘Usap-usap’ in Tagalog.

According to Arch. Jefferson Bulan, the Vice President for Programs and Development for the current fiscal year, the Chapter’s tagline “Palaweño Architects Elevating” was conceptualized by Arch. Cabanting with “bolder vision and having greater impact not only for the organization, but also to the community and environment.”

There are several goals and plans for the Chapter, and among them are to advocate and promote Republic Act 9266, also known as “The Architecture Act of 2004,” which is aligned in pushing for hiring of architects for all projects in Palawan, and to ensure companies and construction project owners are engaging with registered and licensed architects and to avoid illegal practices.

“To advance the ideals of our profession in society, to let the public know that Palawan has talented architects they may hire so that they will no longer hire someone from the Metro or to hire illegal practitioners and the like,” Arch. Bulan said.

In addition, the Chapter will also Digitalizacion Program aims to improve information dissemination by utilizing multimedia and a few social media platforms.

“The organization will also work with numerous LGUs as part of the Outspread Program to identify potential areas of partnership and to talk about how UAP Palawan could provide service in the medium to long term to benefit society. Along with offering symposiums and presentations, CSR initiatives, and skill-upgrading programs for our beloved members, we will also be engaged in these areas. Additionally, we will be expanding our network by enlisting new partners and developers in the Metro area as well as in Palawan,” Arch. Bulan added.

The Chapter will celebrate its 25th anniversary in the upcoming fiscal year, and according to Arch. Bulan, all of UAP Palawan’s programs are therefore intended to be implemented over the long term.

The GMM was participated by registered architects who are officers and members of the UAP Palawan Chapter, which aim to formalize its key plans and programs for organization last August 18 at Haim Chicken Inato, Manalo Extension, Puerto Princesa City.

“We are grateful to our new partners for helping to make the Membership Benefit Program more engaging for our inactive members and incoming new members. Our new partners support us and help us deliver better goods and services while elevating Palaweño Architects, thus we are incredibly fortunate to have them on our side, like the Palawan Daily News that is very much willing to help us enhance our public relations and Special Committee for Publications, Multimedia, and Creatives,” Arch. Bulan said.
