After featuring the “Ultimate World-class Beach Destination” during the first Tourism Promotional Caravan, the City Tourism Department conducted its second caravan, this time showcasing the northeastern destinations in the city where popular beaches and resorts can be found such as Astoria Palawan, which hosted the event last November 22.

This initiative is one of the steps in preparing for the reopening of the city’s tourism industry. Notable attendees of the event were local officials from different government departments, tourism stakeholders, members of associations under the City Tourism Council, the City Choir, and bikers and riders groups.
The program consisted of various activities such as Zumba sessions, performances, games, beach volleyball, and kayaking. The Batak Tribe performed a traditional dance accompanied by their own traditional music.
Kag. Matthew Mendoza, on behalf of the City Mayor Lucillo Bayron and the City Council, requested the attendees to continue supporting the city’s promotional caravan. He also stressed the importance of the support of the locals.
“Ang caravan na ito po ay, dahil nandito kayo, naging matagumpay ito dahil sa inyong suporta. Kaya aking nirerequest na patuloy niyo pong suportahan ang lahat ng paparating pa pong mga promotional caravan natin. Ito po ay napakaimportante, hindi lang po para sa atin, [dahil] ang success po ng ating tourism ay para sa buong [Lungsod ng] Puerto Princesa,” Mendoza said.
The Resort Manager of Astoria Palawan, Joy Suarez, is enthusiastic and positive about the reopening of tourism. She is in hopes that they will be able to open the whole resort to the locals and, in the future, domestic and international guests.
Suarez said that the event gave them the opportunity to showcase Astoria Palawan in a so-called “new normal mode”.
“Actually, masaya kami na napili kami na [maging] venue ng tourism promotional caravan. It’s actually an opportunity for us to showcase our property, to showcase Astoria Palawan,” she shared.
According to the City Tourism Department, the next caravan will take place in Sabang, Puerto Princesa to promote the northwestern part of the city.
